The Obstacle is the Way by Ryan Holiday
Three Key Components from the Book for Turning Trials into Triumph
The Obstacle is the Way by Ryan Holiday draws inspiration from the teachings of Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius and other Stoic philosophers that he personally follows. Ryan believes that by using the following three key principles: perception, action, and will — we can turn obstacles into opportunities and become stronger in the process.
Here are the three main ideas Ryan shares to help us turn challenges into triumphs.
The First key Principle
The first key principle is Perception.
Holiday reminds us that there’s no such thing as “good” or “bad” — rather it’s how you see things, that makes all the difference.
What really matters is the story you tell yourself about what’s happening. Like If you only focus on the negative, says Holiday, then you’ll always feel stuck.
And as the late Wayne Dyer put it, “When you change your perspective, the things you perceive also change.”
So, if you change the way you look at things, you can change the way you feel about them too.
No matter what’s going on in your life, you can choose how to see it.
